The Platinum Blue Black has more to it than you might expect. The ink performs excellently in writing, although it is a little on the dry side. I tested it with a Platinum Balance M, and perhaps a few times it felt a little dry, which is not a problem I’ve experience with other inks in the same pen. The interesting part about this ink is that it is an iron gall ink. So be warned, it does have a tendency to eat away at nibs in cheaper pens, so keep it away from your Jinhao’s. It’s great to use in pens that have gold nibs though, since it won’t damage them. The magic with this ink happens only a few hours after you’ve written with it. The ink oxidizes because of the iron gall, and turns from a relatively bright blue into a beautifully muted dark Blue Black. This is where the name comes from, so don’t expect it to be a blue black colour from the get go, it’ll only get to the colour you probably want a while later. This isn’t something that bothers me, in fact it makes me like it a lot more, but it may be different for you, so be warned. This ink is also relatively waterproof, I’ve tested this with a few watercolor paintings and when used on 100% cotton watercolor paper it was almost completely waterproof, but on other paper like Rhodia it did not perform as well. Overall this is an excellent ink with some hidden secrets, just be careful that it doesn’t eat your pens when you’re not looking.
